This article applies to Adro Personal and Adro Business accounts.
To help protect your Adro account from unauthorized access, we encourage you to enable two-factor authentication (sometimes called 2FA or multi-factor authentication).
What is two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication is built on the idea that there are three ways to prove your identity online. You can authenticate yourself using:
Something you know, such as a PIN or a password
Something you have, like a smartphone or a security key
Something physically unique to you, like a fingerprint or a face scan
When you log in with a username and a password, that’s one factor of authentication. However, a password isn’t enough to protect your online accounts. When an account requires the use of a second factor (such as a unique, one-time use code that is generated each time you login or change key account information) along with a password, that can reduce the risk of unauthorized access.
How do I enable two-factor authentication?
You can enable this at any time:
Login to your account
Navigate to 'Settings,' then to 'Security'
Click 'Two-factor auth settings,' then to 'Setup'
Follow the instructions using your preferred 2FA app
What 2FA apps does Adro support?
In addition to SMS (text message), we also support the following 2FA apps:
Authy
Duo Mobile
Google Authenticator
Microsoft Authenticator
And more
Authenticator apps are tools that add an extra layer of security to your online accounts through 2FA. Instead of relying solely on a password, these apps generate time-based one-time passcodes—usually six digits that refresh every 30 seconds—which you enter along with your password when logging in.
Why use an authenticator app?
Protects against password theft: Even if someone gets your password, they can't access your account without the code from your app
Works offline: Codes are generated locally on your device, so no internet or cell service is needed
More secure than SMS: Text-based codes can be intercepted; authenticator apps are much harder to compromise
Is it mandatory to set up two-factor authentication on Adro?
No. The decision to enable two-factor authentication is up to you. However, we do encourage you to turn on this feature to help protect your account and money.
What is a passkey? Is it the same as 2FA?
A passkey is a modern, passwordless authentication method that uses cryptographic keys stored on your device. Instead of typing a password, you authenticate using something like your fingerprint, face scan, or device PIN. It’s designed to be phishing-resistant, fast, and secure because your private key never leaves your device.
Two-factor authentication (2FA), on the other hand, adds an extra layer of security to traditional password-based logins. It typically involves:
Something you know (your password)
Plus something you have (like a one-time code from an app or SMS)
For Adro Business accounts, you may be prompted to authenticate using a passkey and/or 2FA when completing certain actions, such as sending a wire transfer.
