What do I need to open an account?

If you're moving to the US, here’s what you’ll need to open an account:

  • Your passport

  • Address

  • Phone number

  • Be at least 18 years old

A SSN (Social Security number) or ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) is not required to open an account

Opening an account outside the US: You can sign up using a non-US address and add money to your account. However, you'll need to add a US address and verify it before you can spend or make withdrawals.

Who can open an account?

In addition to the items listed above, you'll need to be:

  • Currently living in the US, or

  • About to move to the US, with an approved visa from the US government

Identity verification

As part of the identity verification process, we'll ask you to take a selfie and compare it to your passport or government-issued photo ID. Photos are encrypted, and will not be accessible or used for any purpose other than verifying your identity.

I'm outside of the US, but moving soon. When should I open an account?

You can open an account at any time, before or after arriving in the US. We recommend adding money to your account at least one week prior to arriving in the US.

Once you've landed, you can request a virtual card and add it to Google Pay or Apple Pay to start making purchases in USD.

Please note, you will not be able to spend or withdraw any money from your Adro account until you have arrived in the US.

Can I still open an account as a permanent US resident?

Yes, you can open an account as a permanent US resident.

What accounts can I have with Adro?

You can open a checking account, savings account and/or a credit card. You can choose to open one, both or all accounts.

When you sign up, you'll be asked which account you want to open first. You can then open a second and/or third account right away, or decide later.

What currencies can I hold in Adro?

You can hold US dollars only. Other currencies are not supported at this time.

How long does it take before I can start spending with my Adro card?

You can start spending from the day you arrive in the US.

If you open an Adro account, complete identity verification and transfer money into your account before arriving, you'll be able to make purchases in US dollars starting from the day you enter the US. Keep in mind, it can take up to 5 business days for your home country bank to send money internationally and receive it in your Adro account.

Once you've arrived in the US, you can request a virtual card and add it to Google Pay or Apple Pay, which takes a few minutes using your phone. Once added, you can tap to pay in US dollars and make purchases in-store or online.
