Death of an Adro account holder

We're sorry for your loss, and we'll work with you at every step to settle your loved one's estate.

To process your documentation as quickly as possible, please make sure you have accurate and complete information, and that all paperwork is legible.

Start by notifying Adro

First, it’s important to promptly notify Adro of the death, in order to reduce potential process delays. When you’re ready, you may choose to do one of the following:

  • Send an email to [email protected], or

  • Start a chat by clicking the chat icon in the bottom right corner of this page, or

  • Send a letter to Adro at 228 Park Ave S, PMB 76726, New York, NY 10003

To help identify their account(s) with us, please ensure you have the deceased's full legal name, email address, US address and ITIN or SSN, if applicable.

Next, gather your documents

Please have these documents available and ready to submit.

Certified copy of the death certificate. The death certificate gives us the information needed to verify the identity and legal residence of the customer, as well as confirm the date of death.

Other legal documents. We may require additional documents such as a last will and testament, formal trust, birth or marriage certificate, and/or proof of legal name change (if applicable).

In cases where the documentation is in a language other than English, we will need it translated and notarized.

Why does the death certificate need to be certified?

This helps us verify the identity of the account holder. To be certified, typically the document will have a raised seal that says, “This is a true and certified copy.” Sometimes, instead of a seal, the certificate will have an ink or multicolored signature or watermark.

How long does it take to release estate money in an Adro account?

The time it takes to settle an account will differ, and can depend on the complexity of the account holder's estate. We begin the legal review as soon as we receive all necessary documents. The legal review can take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks.

In what currency will the funds be released to the estate?

Funds will be issued in US dollars.
